WHAT I THINK ABOUT...

...Mandy Moore

I like Mandy Moore. I'm glad she's moving away from the sticky bubblegum image she tried to pull off when she came into the music scene in..whatever year that was. Maybe it's the new hair (by the way, I love her short hair in How to Deal, and it sucks that she's growing it long), but she's beginning to seem more and more like a normal girl I would meet on the street. Then again, I don't do much meeting of anyone, much less meeting on streets, so let's change that to a normal girl I would observe from afar as she walked into some clothing store I wouldn't be caught dead inside, and if I saw this normal girl, I would probably think something along the lines of Huh. That looked oddly like Mandy Moore. But pffft! Mandy Moore, celebrity girl, would never be caught dead in that store. Where's the food court? I want a chicked salad sandwich.... Then I would mosey my way off to the nearest Chik-Fil-A and drink all their root beer (because they don't have any orange soda, which mildly offends me).

One of the things that would convince me that this Mandy Moore-esque person could not possibly be Mandy Moore would be that she doesn't travel with a massive entourage. A huge swarm of important-by-association people milling about would automatically set off the famous person sensors which the government has embedded in every American's brain at birth. But Mandy Moore, without paid groupies, would be able to fly completely under the radar. She'd be like a Stealth Bomber. Except without any type of weapon.

I have one final thought on Mandy Moore. I'm allowing myself only one because I like to keep the columns on this page short.

People like Mandy Moore (and I always call celebrities by their full names) make me question what I want to do with my future. I see them doing this exciting thing that they love so much, and I see other people enjoying their work so much, and I wonder why I have the goals I do. Because, let's be honest, no one likes an aggressive female criminal prosecuter or an aggressive female ACLU attorney. It just makes me wonder why some people are worshipped while others are maliciously scorned. Strange, humanity's inhumanity to itself.
